Severn Vale Open Art Studio Trail - 3rd-17th May 2008

Building on our success over the past two years, the Thornbury Arts Festival Committee is delighted to say that it is running another “Severn Vale Open Art Studio Trail” again this year from Saturday 3rd to Saturday 17th May.

The Church of Saint Mary by Robert Hirstwood, Thornbury Artist

Prior to the trail, examples of the Artists’ work will form The Festival Art Exhibition, which will run from 24th-30th April.

Many of our local Artists will be known from previous years – John Huggins, sculptor, Jane Lampard, Robert Hirstwood and Joan Hawkins, painters and Isabelle Roberts, who does both.

There are many crafts also on show – textiles, pottery, stained glass, framed mosaics and batik, papier mache and jewellery. In all there are around 40 Artists taking part.

This time several Artists are sharing one venue at The Whitsun Hall, which is part of The Hatch Camphill Community in Kington Lane in Thornbury. This has been kindly offered to the Arts Festival committee by Mrs. Rosemary Newman, who runs The Hatch.

Jamie's Cottage by Robert Hirstwood, Thornbury Artist

During the Festival week, 9th-18th May, there will also be a Children’s Art Exhibition on the theme of “Bicycles” at St. Mary’s Church in Thornbury to exhibit the work of some of our young talented Artists. The children are taking part through work they have done in school.

It is hoped that as many people as possible will take part in following the Arts Trail. It is a true “box of delights” with a chance to buy if you wish or simply to enjoy!

Art in the High Street

This year several of the Thornbury businesses are featuring some of the Artists’ work in their windows to promote the event and to celebrate the local talent.
