March 12th-14th, 6.15-9.15pm, Thornbury Leisure Centre
This is the 25th year in succession that we have held this great event. We are inviting people to organise teams of six swimmers who swim in relay over 55 minutes in one lane having obtained sponsorship either per length or per session.
It is a fun event and the Castle School Steel Band will be playing at the pool side which always produces a wonderful atmosphere of fun and fellowship in the pool.
So far, over 25 years, this event has raised over £250,000 for local and national charities and this year the main beneficiaries of the Swimarathon will be The Fairbridge Trust (which helps young people aged 13–25 years who have had great difficulties, for example with drugs or alcohol etc, to turn their lives around and gain meaningful employment) and Meningitis Research Foundation of Thornbury.
To confirm the input of everyone involved, we will present certificates to each participant in recognition of the effort they have put into this event.
If you would like to take part and obtain a sponsorship form, please contact Philip Savage on 01454 413009 or by email below.
It would be great to see you there!
The “BIG SPLASH” has become a hugely popular and successful event.
There will be 3 sessions on Friday 12th starting from 6.15pm (particularly suitable for our younger participants) and 2 sessions on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th from 7.15pm – allowing for 84 teams.
PLEASE get friends, relatives or work colleagues to sponsor you or your team, or even better to enter teams themselves. Help to make the JUBILEE extra special!
Last year's Swimarathon was a great success. Thanks to everyone who took part, we raised over £8,000, with major donations gratefully received by CLIC Sargent, and
Macmillan Cancer Support and of course, as with every year, many smaller charities and fund-raising schemes also benefited from this outstanding effort.

This year for the first time we are organising a new class within the Fun Run. There will be a prize for the first three winning teams. Teams will consist of a minimum of 6 people (mixed sexes allowed). Each team when registering must commit to raise a minimum of £150 sponsorship money for CLIC Sargent. Teams that collect over £500 sponsorship will also be entered into a draw to receive a substantial prize which will be presented at the AGM in October.
Teams can enter in one or the other of the two runs. Either the Red race (for adults, U18s and U15s) or the Blue race (for U13s and accompanying adult, walkers and adults who just want a gentle jog). The winners will be the team that has the lowest total of the first six positions across the line.
Once again this year we are offering prizes to the individual that collects the most sponsorship for CLIC Sargent and for those that collect at least £150.
This event has raised many £000s for CLIC Sargent – over £7,000 last year alone. At the end of last year there were 48 children under treatment in Gloucestershire – each one needing all the care and help the charity can provide. That is why the money raised from the Oldbury Fun Run is so important in helping the charity to provide appropriate assistance to all children and young people who are diagnosed with cancer throughout the county.

The 1st Mike Nelmes Charity Golf Day was supported by over 50 people on the day and hundreds more through the sale of raffle tickets.
We raised a staggering £2,848 which has helped towards improving the lives of those living with cancer, their families and their carers; making life less about cancer and more about living.
Macmillan cancer supports people living in Wiltshire, Bristol, Bath and North Somerset and benefits from more than 80 Macmillan professionals. They manage the symptoms and aim to make living with cancer easier. Macmillan can also relieve the financial strain that cancer can bring, last year giving more than £155,632 in grants to 420 people in our local area. Their aim is to provide the best treatment for all two million people living with cancer in the UK today.
Mike Nelmes lost his battle in 2004. Please support this deserving charity as they supported us during Mike’s battle.
