10.30am: South Gloucestershire Family Fun Day
Kingswood Park

Our popular annual event runs from 10.30am to 4pm at Kingswood Park, High Street, Kingswood and provides a variety of entertainment for families, with a selection of live music acts, face painting, street art displays and food stalls to enjoy.

There will also be a variety of stalls with information about what services the council and its partner organisations such as the NHS provide to families in South Gloucestershire and where to go to receive further advice and support.

Tying in with National Family Week which runs from 27 May to 2 June, the event is aimed at the whole family, and helps build stronger communities by bringing people together to have fun and enjoy everything their local area has to offer.

Family Fun Day event organiser George Kousouros said: “Come along to our fun day in Kingswood Park and enjoy a great day out for the whole family. There are lots of great activities planned throughout the day with live music from some talented musicians as well as entertainers,... Read more >>

11am: Oldbury-on-Severn Fun Run and Family Day

Preparations for the annual Oldbury on Severn Fun Run, one of the largest fun runs in the West, are getting under way.

Since starting in the early 1980s the main benefactor of the event has been and continues to be the Charity CLIC Sargent. Other beneficiaries include local organisations such as the Severn Area Rescue Association, which provides life boats on the river and local village community projects.

Overall, the very popular event has raised well over £50,000. Last year the total was over £10,000. Committee member Chris Awde says: “We are so proud, not only of raising these funds but also that everybody who joins us on the day, runners and spectators, all say it’s such an enjoyable and great fun day for all the family.”

The local volunteers (40+) who make the event happen have been working hard since the last person crossed the line last year to ensure they continue to make this a top event in the region.

The Oldbury Fun Run is now regarded as one of the premier... Read more >>

Thornbury Town FC

The club runs two adult teams and a youth section running from U6 to U18 and caters for both male and female teams. The exact date of the formation of a football club in Thornbury is uncertain, but it is known that football was being played in the town in 1896 and that there was a Thornbury Town Club in 1898. The youth section was originally formed in 1990 as a separate club (Thornbury Falcons) and ran in this capacity for many successful years covering teams for boys and girls up to U16. In 2010 the two clubs merged to form a new Thornbury Town FC while retaining adult and junior sections (up to U18).
