Art History Course: Secrets of the Artist's Studio 1
The Chantry, Thornbury
Secrets of the Artist's Studio: 1. Drawing
10.30am–3.15/45pm Tea and short informal discussion session from 3.15pm
Fee: £28.00 to include coffee/tea and biscuits (or £50 for 1 & 2)
When we look at an art work in the museum or gallery we are presented with a finished product. The great artists make it look so easy!
It can be hard to imagine the work that went into making the piece: the skilled use of tools and materials, the study of anatomy and knowledge of geometry, and the understanding of different media.
Today we will look at drawings of the great masters, from pattern books to sketch books, preparatory studies to presentation sketches, underdrawings to cartoons. We will recognise silver and lead point, chalks and conté crayons, graphite and inks.
The course will be richly illustrated with excellent quality digital slides.
Join me to peer behind the scenes and discover secrets of the artist's studio.
Former university lecturer Lynne Gibson is an experienced tutor with a vast collection of slides and her talks are always illuminating and inspiring. To book a place please ring Pauline Darley on 01454 416291.
