We have regular social events such as skittles evenings, quiz nights, barbecues and the like, and there is always a Christmas dinner.
However, we are more than just a walking club. The Ramblers is a registered charity and one of its aims is to campaign to keep the footpath network open.

Thomas Dagg gave the field to Thornbury in 1546, so we tend what must be some of the oldest allotments in the country.
There are 120 allotments, and the Association has over 100 members. It organises social events such as the Summer BBQ, the Autumn Talk, the Christmas Meal as well as distributing monthly newsletters, running the Allotment Shop and offering discounts to some local retailers.
Gillingstool Primary School has a large plot which offers all pupils the opportunity to grow and eat their own produce.
Membership costs just a couple of pounds a year, and brings many benefits. You don't need to be a plot holder to become a member. We have discounted seeds, competitive prices on gardening items, guest speakers and visits.
If you would like to become a member, or be added to the waiting list for a plot, click the website link below.

The garden features a pergola, solar-powered water feature, interesting display of rocks and fossils from Aust Cliff and windchimes, amongst other things. It involves local groups, including the disabled and local schools, as well as the wider community.
The garden, which can be made fully secure, is open everyday during daylight hours. If you have an event that you would like to hold in the garden, please contact us. For more info download our brochure or visit our website.

We would welcome plants or any other related items to sell to raise funds. We would also appreciate offers of help to man the stall for an hour or so.
We are teaming up with The Horticultural Society, The Small Holders Association and Alveston Gardening Club and it will be very much a stall to promote awareness of our causes, but if we can raise some funds to help with our impending large bills for floral displays it will help.

For a truly inspirational outing you can do no better than popping along to the Olveston and Tockington Open Gardens day.
The garden trail lets you peek into the back gardens of some of the village's most interesting and inspirational green spaces, from informal family gardens, traditional cottage gardens and productive allotments, to mature formal gardens.
There will be teas and cakes, plants to buy and a stall selling just the prettiest hand-made bird and insect boxes, to help encourage wildlife to make your garden "home".
Take a leisurely walk around the gardens - the trail is little more than half a mile and we guarantee that you will see gardening delights that are otherwise hidden from view.
So, whether you are green fingered or not come and share in the pleasure of someone else's hard work!
The benefiting charity is 1st Olveston Scouts.

We will be judged for the regional competition South West In Bloom [which we won last year] in the morning.
This means that Thornbury has to be “spick and span” free from weeds, litter and graffiti. We will be arranging working parties just before, so if you are able to help it will be much appreciated. If you can’t help in a big way please just ensure you keep the front of your own house or business premises clean and tidy.
