7.30pm: Thornbury Choral Society Concert
Castle School, Thornbury

Thornbury Choral Society invites you to spend a summer evening captivated by the compositions of twentieth century French masters.

Faure’s Requiem – in his own words, “Dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest.”

Poulenc’s Gloria – a captivating mixture of solemnity and mischievous exuberance. However solemn the text, Poulenc’s sense of humour and love of life shine through.

Despite its title, Ravel’s – Pavane pour une Infante Defunte was never intended as a funeral lament, but instead a tender wistful dance melody for a Spanish princess.

The concert is under the musical direction of Steven Kings. He will be joined by soloists Llio Evans (soprano) and Meilir Jones (bass).
