Art Classes
From 6 Sep 2010 - the first of seven Monday sessions, 10.30am-12.30pm, The Chantry Community Centre, 52 Castle Street, Thornbury BS35 1HB

Friendly classes for over 16s which focus on techniques to improve your drawing whatever your level of experience. Methods covered develop use of shape, proportion, shading, perspective and colour. Media include pencil, charcoal, pastels and water-colour pencils.

Pre-booking is essential please. Stella can supply materials and paper for a small extra charge, or you can bring your own. If you’d like to book please email or phone for a booking form - your place will be confirmed on receipt of a completed booking form and deposit cheque.

Old Down Country Park is delighted to offer a series of Art Classes to be held over the Autumn. A ten week course commencing September 29th with weekly Wednesday sessions at 10am for 2 hours is open to all grades and types of artist - expert or beginner.

Additionally there are two full day courses one in October and one in November concentrating on different aspects of Art.

Seeing Red, Feeling Blue
10.30am-4.30pm, Chantry, 52 Castle Street, Thornbury, BS35 1HB

Two day-schools exploring colour through the History of Art.

On Friday October 8th Lynne Gibson will lead us through early ideas of colour from Antiquity to the Renaissance, focussing on the colour red, considering pigments, dyes and hidden meanings.

On Friday October 29th, with reference to scientific ideas on colour and light, we will concentrate on the colour blue and ways that it was used by artists to convey symbolism and mood.

Lynne is an experienced tutor with a vast collection of slides and her talks are always illuminating and inspiring.

There is a craft group which meets in the Olveston Methodist Hall, and all crafters are welcome to come along and share their crafts with others.

Thornbury Art Club
Thornbury Art Club has been running nearly 40 years, and is open to anyone over 16.
Our Club Nights, normally first Wednesday of the month, are open to visitors for a charge of £2 (free refreshments!) - other events require membership.
Membership includes social functions and a summer programme of outdoor painting sessions. Studio painting sessions are held three times a week.

Thornbury Camera Club
The club welcomes photographers of all abilities. We meet at 7.30 for 7.45 every Monday evening at the Bakery annexe near the Wheatsheaf pub, September to April, and have a reduced programme during the summer. The meetings are a mix of guest speakers, competitions and practical evenings. We run a beginners course in the Autumn, and students regularly join us for club meetings.
