Severn Vale Art Trail
The Thornbury Arts Festival is pleased to present its Severn Vale Art Trail, preceded by a Showcase Exhibition in the Town Hall.
The 2012 trail runs from May 4th-13th, with the Showcase Exhibition running throughout the Festival between April 20th and 28th.
New artists join the trail each year, and to visit them in their own homes and studios is fascinating, reminding us of the great talent that exists locally behind closed doors.
Venues include the Thornbury Pound building, Thornbury Museum, Pound Barn at Wickwar, The Chantry, the Whitsun Hall at The Hatch and the Octagon Gallery at The Castle School, as well as Thornbury shop windows along the High Street.
Following a trail to access the work of painters, textile artists, wood turners, photographers, jewellers and fused glass works is an exciting way to spend your time and is a chance to purchase a fresh work of art for your home.
Watch out for brochures in March from Thornbury Town Hall and in outlets in the surrounding towns and villages.

Thornbury Arts Festival
20th April to 29th April 2012
It is now 43 years since Thornbury Arts Festival came into being with varied programmes of events covering music, drama, film and comedy as well as the visual arts. Signatures in the archive album range from an astronaut, an explorer, radio and television personalities and actors, writers and scientists as well as Big Bands, singers and musicians. It runs for ten days every year and in 2012 it takes place between 20 – 29 April.
A delicious night of laughter and cooking opens this year’s Festival. Glaswegian Hardeep Singh Kohli, comedian and author, travels with his well stocked mobile kitchen and presents his show ‘The Nearly Naked Chef’. Hardeep was runner-up on the first series of Celebrity Masterchef and is a very funny man!
An evening with legendary virtuoso percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie is devoted to her unique musical talent as a solo percussionist. She tells her fascinating life story and plays a small selection of instruments from her collection.
Thornbury is no exception when it comes to celebrating the bicentenary of Charles Dickens. Well known actors Robert Powell and Elizabeth Garvie bring his characters to life in words and music.
As April 23rd is St George’s Day, Michael Lunts entertains with a one man musical revue taking an affectionate and often hilarious look at the quirks of the English character.
More music is provided by the unusual duo of ex-builder and Cambridge scholar turned operatic tenors, Neil Allen and Tim Lole, The Opera Dudes. Their unique blend of style, swing and slapstick humour offers unbeatable and unmissable entertainment.
Best selling poet and favourite of Radio 4 Poetry Please listeners, Wendy Cope reads from her latest collection, ‘Family Values’, explaining the background to her new poems and old favourites with her usual charm.
Another literary event sees storyteller Dr Geoff Mead going deep into the forests and mountains of Old Europe as he tells great wonder tales from the Brothers Grimm and other traditions.
Travelling from Thornbury to a Scottish Loch, Professor Gareth Williams follows the trail of the monster... does it exist? This is a story of intrigue, legend and science!
Interest in the life of WW1 Gloucestershire poet and composer Ivor Gurney has been rekindled by two local film makers in their film Severn and Somme. This film forms part of a double bill with a screening of the original 1938 black and white film Pygmalion as this year marks the centenary of the writing of George Bernard Shaw’s iconic story.
The Festival programme also includes lunchtime talks and entertainment, children’s events including an Eisteddfod for music and drama, a village walk and The Severn Vale Art Trail.
