St Mary's Church Tower will be open, there will be guides around the Parish Church and a lunchtime organ recital.
10pm, The Chantry, Castle Street, Thornbury
The Thornbury and District Community Association invite you to a day of exciting events.
During the day, from 10 till 4, The Chantry is again taking part in a Heritage Open Day, when many of Thornbury’s historic buildings are open to the public for free. Come along and learn about the fascinating history of our building, parts of which date back to Tudor times. Trustee Chris Davis will be giving an illustrated talk on the building, and the Thornbury Museum will also have a display - or you can just look round the premises and the splendid garden at your own pace. If you’re not familiar with The Chantry, this is the chance to get to know a significant part of Thornbury’s heritage.
During the afternoon and early evening we will be holding a Wine Festival, which we hope will please both the connoisseur, and those who just like an occasional glass. This will lead, convivially, into our main event of the day, our Proms in the Chantry Garden. There will be a string quartet to entertain you, (from 7-30 for just over an hour) and, when the time comes, we will screen the final part of BBC’s Last Night of the Proms (on a large TV screen). Wear something red, white and blue and sing along to patriotic favourites such as Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory. There will be a small charge for the evening of £5 a head (£3 for children) for what should be an unforgettable night out.

MURDER! MURDER! Well you will certainly witness one or two of those in “JEKYLL and HYDE” - but there’s lots more too! The musical is based on the novella by Robert Louis Stevenson (with a somewhat embellished story!).
Jekyll, a young doctor, is convinced of the duality of the human character and wishes to separate the two in order to attempt to release his father from the mental illness which is imprisoning him. Denied the opportunity to try his formula on another human, Jekyll decides to experiment on himself and Hyde is “born”!
Jekyll can, perhaps, be seen as a flawed genius; he is well-intentioned, but we all know where good intentions lead! As well as the familiar theme of conflicting good and evil the show has not one but two entwined “love” stories; Jekyll is engaged to the devoted Emma but also finds himself attracted to the prostitute Lucy whom he meets on his stag night. For her part Lucy is overwhelmed by Jekyll’s kindness when she turns to him when she is injured by Hyde and muses on what might be as she sings “If Someone Like You”; at the same time she finds herself both attracted to and repelled by Hyde.
Many twists and turns ensue with much drama, passion and pathos along the way, culminating in a dramatic climax - definitely a show not to be missed! The music is awe-inspiring with wonderful songs like “This is the Moment”; if you liked “Les Miserables” you will love “Jekyll and Hyde”!
Tickets are £9, £8 concession and on Wednesday 3 full price tickets for the price of 2, on the other performances buy 10 tickets get one free!
The box office will open at Wildings on Wednesday 6th October or ring now on 01454 415850. Tickets can also be reserved, but not paid for by e-mailing below.

Boldwood was formed in 2004 by accordionist Becky Price, who needed an ensemble to perform the fiddle repertoire she had been researching in little-known 18thC English publications and hand-written manuscripts in London libraries. The unusual line-up of accordion and 3 string-players is a surprisingly appropriate vehicle for the material, which comes from a golden age of English music when the worlds of folk and classical music happily co-existed and intermingled for arguably the last time.
All the members of Boldwood are classically trained with an additional grounding in traditional music and, since much of the music was originally intended for dancing, they bring these neglected musical gems to life with tremendous drive and energy. Their debut CD, Feet, Don't Fail Me Now, includes many previously unrecorded tunes.

Methera is a unique ensemble: a string quartet with roots planted in English traditional music. Their national tours, BBC Radio 3 broadcasts and collaborations have helped them establish a reputation as a scintillating live act, blazing a trail through the uncharted territory that lies between folk and chamber music.
Lucy Deakin (Cello), John Dipper and Emma Reid (fiddles) and Miranda Rutter (viola) combine a deep knowledge of traditional music with a wide range of other influences. Newly composed pieces sit alongside timeless traditional material; their music is both sophisticated and earthy, groundbreaking and familiar.
