Give it Away/Take it Away Day 2010
September 19th 2010 saw Sustainable Thornbury's third successful Give it Away/Take it Away Day at Rock Street Car Park in Thornbury.
350 cars came to drop off and collect items, with 23 volunteers helping on the day, including Litterbusters. Around 90 per cent of everything given to the event finds a new home.
It's a great excuse for a clear out - yes, even the attic, garage and shed - to get rid of those unwanted things in your home. No item is too big or too small – it just needs to have useful life in it still. Sort out your old books. Offer that chair a new lease of life. (Couldn’t you use that space?) Will you grow too many tomato plants - again? Give them away and maybe find something special for yourself!
By sorting out those items you no longer need and and offering them to someone else, you help yourself, your community and above all you help your planet.
It's an ideal chance to pass on things the charity shops will not take. No dangerous items or live creatures please, but large items and electrical goods are welcome.
There is a large items board to display cards advertising items too big to bring. Give only your phone number, and any takers will ring you. Adverts can be put up on the day or via this website.
Please put labels on less usual items, items in several parts should be securely fastened together and items that could be damaged by the weather should be protected.
Anything you take is at your own risk, and Sustainable Thornbury do not guarantee that anything will work. No traders please.
Any goods left over are offered to charity shops, and the remainder recycled or sent to landfill.
