NATIONAL COMPETITION
We are very proud to announce that Thornbury has been invited to represent the South West Region in the National Britain In Bloom competition. This is quite an honour and will bring even greater publicity for the town. It will involve more work and we have to concentrate on ensuring that not only do we continue to receive maximum support from all the community but also that we achieve even higher standards of horticultural excellence.
We will be issuing more news and information and details of how you can help but in the meantime...
Saturday 8th November: Bulb planting starts. We have bulbs to plant on The Munday Playing fields, Moreton Way and Chantry Road. If you can help please meet at Thornbury Garden Shop with suitable planting tools if possible.
Saturday 15th November: Christmas Light Switch on in St Mary’s Centre. We are running a fund raising stall. We are having a “Chocolate Tombola” to provide fun for all children and adult chocoholics and we are also selling specially made bird and bug boxes. This will be an ideal time to start some Christmas shopping or equip your own garden for wildlife.
We also need... A PERSON! We really need a fund-raiser to chase up some of the businesses in the area that could do a little more to support our efforts- which are for the benefit of the WHOLE TOWN!. If you have a little time on your hands and perhaps have done a bit of fund-raising/marketing/advertising and are not shy about picking up the phone and talking to local businesses we would LOVE to hear from you!!! No need to formally join in “committee meetings” just be part of our team.
Tree Planting. We have a group looking at tree planting in the Town and if you are interested in sponsoring a tree in memory of a loved one or to promote your business or organisation –please get in touch.
Date for your Diary. Tuesday 27th January- talk by the Curator of Westonbirt Arboretum-7.30pm Cossham Hall-Tickets to go on sale shortly.
