About Thornbury Castle
If an Englishman’s home is his castle, then Thornbury Castle is yours to enjoy.
Whether you join friends for a lunch, relax and indulge with a cream tea or have a key family event to celebrate, the castle's magnificent surroundings and excellent service make it a memorable experience.
Our Head Chef, South West born Mark Veale, brings his unique cooking style to the fabulous venue of Thornbury Castle.

Mark uses as many regional ingredients as possible, including organic fruit and vegetables, local ciders and produce from the Castle grounds. We grow our own herbs on the estate, as well as vegetables such as courgette flowers and cherry tomatoes.
Creating modern British dishes with European influences, Mark brings his experiences in some of the finest kitchens in the country together to produce a truly magical dining experience.
Thornbury Castle also offers traditional favourites such as our famous butterscotch pudding with butterscotch sauce, and succulent Sunday roasts with all the trimmings. Our classic cheese trolley features some of the best British and Continental cheeses too.
Our Restaurant Manager, Marco Mellace, has compiled a comprehensive wine list winning an Award for Excellence from the Wine Spectator, honouring our restaurant for having one of the most outstanding restaurant wine lists in the world.
We are open every day for lunch (£29.50 per person for three courses) and afternoon tea (cream tea £15.50 per person, full afternoon tea £19.50 per person, Champagne afternoon tea £28.50 per person). Reservations are not always necessary, but advisable to avoid disappointment.

Dining
Head Chef Mark Veale launched a new "a la carte" in February 2011.
Click here to view the menu.
Thornbury Castle has three dining rooms: the octagonal Tower Room adorned with portraits of past owners, the Baron’s Sitting Room which provides the majestic setting for a private party, and the more intimate and exclusive Oriel Dining Room.
The rooms are all baronial in style with panelled walls, heraldic shields and open fires, and each has its own unique charm and ambience.
Tudor Hall Dining
The recent completion of phase one of Thornbury Castle's plans to expand the hotel's facilities has seen the recent opening of the fabulous new kitchen in the North Wing. This provides us with the capability to serve plated food to our usual high service standards in the Tudor Hall.
The Tudor Dining Room, a 16th century large open hall, is accentuated by an abundance of original features, with underfloor heating radiating through original oak floor boards.
Two adjoining rooms, The Great Oven and The Boyling House, can be utilised as additional space for your function - a private bar, for instance, or perhaps a casino room.
The Tudor Hall is available for private dining, special occasions and private business meetings, accommodating from two to fifty guests.
Thornbury Castle Wine
October sees the harvest of the grapes from the historic vineyard at Thornbury Castle Hotel.
Grapes have been growing on this site for around 500 years.
The grapes of the ‘Muller Thurgau’ and the 3 year old ‘Pheonix’ grape varieties, produce a good quality crop under the watchful eye of viticulturalist, Ingrid Bates and her constant companion, Border Collie ‘Indi’ !
The grapes are transported to Three Choirs vineyard in Newent where they are pressed that day. The juice is blended with some of the three Choirs juice to produce a delicious dry white wine with a fruity nose and a hint of sugar.
The pickers are members of the Thornbury U3A wine group and Castle staff, who are rewarded for their hard work with an alfresco lunch of ‘Coq au Vin’ washed down with, of course, an earlier vintage of Thornbury Castle wine no less!
Private Dining
If you are looking to celebrate a memorable occasion with friends and family then Thornbury Castle is the ideal setting, with its unique atmosphere, superb food and excellent service.
The Baron’s Sitting Room is a delightful dining room for small exclusive lunch or dinner parties seating up to 22 people. This room is wood panelled with an imposing original fireplace and deep-set windows with views over the vineyard, castle walls and courtyard. A lovely addition to this room is The Chancellor’s lounge area where you can enjoy an aperitif and canapés.
We are very proud of our Tudor Hall; it’s a truly magnificent room and features stone walls and a huge original fireplace. The Tudor Hall is self-contained and offers complete privacy away from the main part of the hotel. If you are looking for a real castle experience then this room offers that and a whole lot more. We can accommodate up to 50 guests.
