Thornbury Carnival

Taking Part part in Thornbury Carnival 2013

Please note Thornbury Carnival is taking a break in 2012 and will return in 2013.

You, or your group or business can be involved in any combination of the following:

  • An entry into the Parade
  • A stall or activity on the Carnival field
  • An advertisement in the Programme
  • Sponsoring, or co-sponsoring one of the attractions
  • As an affiliated group or as an individual, offering to be responsible for a particular task in advance of the day, or on the day itself.
  • By taking a number of Programmes for sale amongst group members.

The 2009, 2010 and 2011 Carnivals were great successes, with huge numbers of people in Town to enjoy a wholly happy day, in good sunshine. The feel-good factor persists still.

Thornbury Carnival

We want the 2013 Carnival to be even better – more diverse, and with more high quality content. It can be if you decide to become involved. There are plenty of suggestions available if you need them.

Please discuss this with others in your group and make contact soon. We already have a growing list of those from before who want to return, and new participants to join in.

But beware, we were near capacity in 2011. In 2013 we expect to introduce new features which will require covered space in marquees, so craft stallholders will need to apply early to be sure of securing a space in the Makers’ marquee.

Entries to the Classic Cars section will be limited to 100, so again, early entry is advised.

Downloadable entry forms and other documents relating to all aspects of the Carnival will be made available on this page in due course.

Although the Carnival is an open-access function for the benefit of the greater Thornbury area, it is occasionally necessary to exercise some discretion over applications on the grounds of ensuring variety, focussing on entries from within our area of interest, preventing oversubscription of certain types of entries, and health and safety. Enquiries from outside of the area are considered when they might add variety that is not available locally.

Deadlines that appear on the relevant details and entry forms are there for a reason. With large numbers of applicants to process, it is essential we have time to do this properly, and then to turn plans into action on the ground.

Applications can only be accepted if all the relevant documentation is complete, and payment made. The Carnival Association has to have a 3rd party liability insurance, and is required to ensure that all “street traders” operating in the Carnival, are likewise covered. Without this, its Licence to operate cannot be granted.

N.b. Exhibitors of collections etc., who are not trading, but just providing a stall for interest, are not required to pay a pitch fee nor must they have a 3rd party liability insurance if they are prepared to be co-opted into the Carnival Association for the day, and listed as a Thornbury Carnival Exhibit : ANO etc. – as agreed with our Insurers.

The Carnival Association will have a stall at the Thornbury Food Market in Castle Street in mid June 2013, from which Programmes or entrance tickets can be purchased, or if ordered on an Entry Form, can be collected. Please make every effort to use this facility. It will greatly reduce administration tasks and costs for us.
