Thornbury Carnival Association
The Association is a voluntary, unincorporated association, with charitable intent. It consists of an Organising Committee, with no other membership.
There is a list of others associated with the promotion of the Carnival who work off-Committee on various tasks and for the purposes of Insurance, are co-opted members for the day.
The Association has a Constitution, a full range of appropriate policies and is supported by the Town Council and South Gloucestershire Council.
The 2009 Organising Committee comprised: David Goldring (Alveston), Vanessa Carter, Jan Atkins (Chipping Sodbury), Stephen Poole (Bradley Stoke), Tim Pearce, Margaret Goldring (Alveston), Jeremy Wide, Helen Harrison, Julius and Diana Caesar (Stonehouse), Bob Chaskin, Malcolm Gregory, Perry Poole, Paul Gower (Alveston).
Its purposes are to promote an annual Carnival for the Town and the area of greater Thornbury, on the first Saturday in July, that will be of widespread socio-economic benefit.
The Carnival is for the whole area: it happens to be located in the Town of Thornbury.
It welcomes participation from organisations of all kinds in the area, seeks to be inclusive and to provide a platform for the promotion of businesses, social groupings and charities.
The Association works with and shares resources with other local organisations, such as the Thornbury Chamber of Commerce, the Thornbury Christmas Lights Association, Thornbury Arts Festival, Thornbury in Bloom, Thornbury Camera Club, Thornbury Tennis Club, Thornbury Lions, Thornbury Rotary Club , the Oldbury Fun Run, and the Inspire Arts Trust/BALPA.
Prior to the Carnival a comprehensive and substantial, 76 page, A5 format Programme has been produced that includes much advertising space for businesses, articles featuring local people who have done well in their lives, and the schedule of entertainment events for the day.
After the Carnival, a richly illustrated, 44 page, A4 format Annual Report is also produced that encompasses all aspects of the day’s activities.
