Avon Wildlife Trust (Thornbury Group): Paradise Found: Nature in America at the Time of Discovery
7.30pm at Old Bakery Annexe, Armstrong Hall, Chapel Street, Thornbury
Illustrated talk by Steve Nicholls.
The first Europeans to set foot on North America stood in awe of the natural abundance before them. The skies were filled with birds, seas and rivers teemed with fish, and the forests and grasslands were a hunter's dream, with populations of game too abundant and diverse to even fathom. It's no wonder these first settlers thought they had discovered a paradise of sorts.
Steve is an award-winning, television documentary producer and director. Whilst working at the BBC’s Natural History Unit, he produced programmes for ‘Wildlife on One’ and ‘Natural World’. He was series producer on the hugely successful series, ‘Alien Empire’.
In addition, he has written Paradise Land, a highly acclaimed environmental history of North America. He is also vice-chair of the Avon Wildlife Trust.
