Dear Friends and Supporters,
I am sure that by now you will all have heard the good news that THORNBURY won a coveted GOLD medal in the National competition.
Apologies for the delay in issues of this news we stayed a day later to get one-to-one feed back from the judges which I will circulate later.
We should all be very pleased with ourselves as out of about 71 entries in the whole of the National competition there were only 15 Golds awarded. Our category was particularly strong with Golds also going to Forres in Scotland, Halstead in Anglia and Rustington on the South Coast who pipped us to the category winner.
This, as you know, adds to this years’ Gold medal awarded at the South West in Bloom competition where we were awarded the overall category winner.
Special thanks to all those who met the judges on judging day. Their comments were that the over-riding impression was of a very friendly welcoming town and they really enjoyed their visit.
If you would like to see the awards they are on display in Jean Owens window along with our new flag.
After a short period of relaxation we shall have to start thinking about next year. We will be continuing our programme of planting spring bulbs and ideas, donations and willing hands will again be required!
If we are to continue our success in future years we need to think carefully about what we do and we need more helpers so if you are interested in becoming more involved on either an occasional or regular basis why not come along to our AGM which is Monday 7th November, 7.30 pm Armstrong Hall complex.
THANK-YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED IN ANY WAY- WE ARE WINNERS!!
Most importantly everyone who lives and works or visits Thornbury is a winner because we live in a pleasant and green and clean environment. We all do what we do to support the local community and in these difficult times of economic difficulties every little thing that helps our town to thrive or individuals to feel better about their surroundings must be good for us all.
