We meet in the Jubilee Hall, Alveston on the first Monday of the month at 7.30pm. Each month there is a guest speaker to enlighten us on all manner of things "gardening". Visits are made to several lovely gardens/properties each year (both National Trust and privately owned) either as part of an extended trip or as day trips.
The club is managed by a Committee operating under a Constitution and is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society and to the Gloucestershire Federation of Gardening Societies.

Filnore Allotments show what can be achieved in transforming a field into productive food plots. Find us in the field behind Thornbury Leisure Centre near the skateboard park. Click below to find out more.
Filnore Woods Community Woodland provides a diverse range of habitats for wildlife, gives people a wild place to visit, and provides opportunities for education. The woods are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. To find them, cross the field at the back of the Leisure Centre, the one with the skateboard park in it. The entrance is just beyond the new allotments. Click the link below to find out more.
Keeping Filnore Woods attractive for people and for wildlife needs a lot of work. Brambles, thistles and nettles are trying to take over the site and the grass needs cutting at least once a year to retain and promote the wildflowers. We rely on volunteers to do this valuable work. If you would like to get involved you can join the email list by emailing below or phone Jerry Dicker.

We now meet at Falfield Village Hall on Mondays at 7.30pm. For more information, please email Kathryn Hart below.
We arrange walks each weekend as well as midweek evenings in the summer. The area and length of the walk varies greatly and members also arrange occasional weekends away.
We have regular social events such as skittles evenings, quiz nights, barbecues and the like, and there is always a Christmas dinner.
However, we are more than just a walking club. The Ramblers is a registered charity and one of its aims is to campaign to keep the footpath network open.
Please visit our website below for details of our walks.
Meetings are held in the Stuart Room at the Chantry, Castle Street, Thornbury. See the calendar for details. For more information, please contact Chairman Rex Davis 01454 415286, Secretary Vicky Ford 01453 511787 or Publicity Officer Jules Moore 01454 415296 or 07788 658792.
The Church Walking Group meets regularly at St. Mary's Olveston, at 9.30am on the second Tuesday. Some walks start at Olveston and others at nearby villages at 10am. Everyone is welcome to join in. Daggs Allotments at the top of the High Street are administered for the people of Thornbury by Thornbury Town Trust.
Thomas Dagg gave the field to Thornbury in 1546, so we tend what must be some of the oldest allotments in the country.
There are 120 allotments, and the Association has over 100 members. It organises social events, monthly newsletters, and an Allotment Shop.
Gillingstool Primary School's plot offers pupils the chance to grow and eat their own produce.
Membership costs just a couple of pounds a year, and brings many benefits. You don't need to be a plot holder to become a member. We have discounted seeds, competitive prices on gardening items, guest speakers and visits.
If you would like to become a member, or be added to the waiting list for a plot, contact Margaret Powell at the Town Trust by email below.
Situated in the car park at Thornbury Leisure Centre, this is manned on Saturday mornings, but open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Householders can deposit green waste, and collect compost - donations keep the site viable. Click below to read more...

We all enjoy the award-winning floral displays that brighten up Thornbury. Imaginative floral creations welcome us as we enter the town, and hanging baskets and tubs create colourful splashes throughout the town centre.
For this we have to thank Thornbury in Bloom - a group of volunteers who raise money each year to fund the displays, and work hard to plant up the various containers.

Martin Wise of the Berkeley Estate Fishing Syndicate has kindly offered to come along and show us how to use scythes. His accomplice John may also be able to come along.
Hopefully some of us will have the opportunity to try one out. We have Paul Harrison to thank for putting us in touch with Martin.
With the local authority under pressure to cut costs it is not clear that they will be able to cut the grass for us at Filnore. But anyway cutting the grass by hand is rather greener than using massive machinery. I really think it might be possible to cut our grass using scythes.
They bought their scythes from The Scythe Shop. If you want to find out more, including watching videos of scythes in action, visit their website www.thescytheshop.co.uk and click on the many links. The Vido family videos are particularly impressive if a bit evangelical.
