GWR – The Badminton Line

United Reformed Church

12 noon – 1pm, Price £6

Alan Freke of Frenchay Museum gives a fascinating illustrated talk on how the Great Western Railway created a new line in 1903 from Wooten Bassett to Badminton which is often called The Badminton Line.

Alan is enthusiastic about this story which involved the construction of 33 miles of new track creating embankments and viaducts as well as tunnels.

The new line provided a more direct route to South Wales and the expanding port of Fishguard which was perceived as GWR’s connection to the liners setting sail for the United States at the time.
