Manorbrook Primary school has been awarded a BBC Breathing Places grant from the Big Lottery Fund! The £8,800 will help rejuvenate the small woodland planted 25 years ago within the school grounds by increasing bio-diversity, creating new habitats for wildlife and making the area accessible.
'Manorbrook Woodland Walk' will take just under a year to complete but a programme to monitor and maintain the breathing place in the future will be developed.
All the children, staff and parents (Friends of Manorbrook) will contribute to the project as well as local groups such as the onsite pre-school, Scouts and young people undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Activities will include planting new trees and shrubs, building log, stone and leaf piles, putting up bird and bat boxes, creating hibernaculas and developing a bog area.
We would welcome help from any local people interested in the project. Please come along to the Open Meeting on the 27th September, 7pm at Manorbrook School, take a walk around the woods and find out how you can become involved!
