Thornbury High Street Birches
A message from Jerry Dicker, local Arboriculturist, about the proposed removal of Birch trees from Thornbury High Street: After a great deal of emailing, phoning, talking and reading, I have decided that retaining the trees is not on after all. Pavement solutions would be astronomically expensive and the High St is due to be re-paved in the next 2-3 yrs. The roots will continue to be a problem. The new tree will be in a proper planting pit - an Amelanchier arborea - more tree-ish than most Amelanchiers. Sites for more trees will be sought by the tree officer in the High St and Town Centre.
