7.30pm, Colston Hall, Bristol
Members of Thornbury Choral Society will form part of a massed choir of 180 singers who will join Bristol Concert Orchestra for a gala concert.
Singers from the Henbury Singers and Colston's Schools make up the rest of the choir who will perform John Rutter's 'Feel the Spirit' - his arrangement of a collection of well-known spirituals including 'Deep River', 'Steal Away', 'Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho' and 'When the Saints go Marching in'.
They will also join the orchestra for the main work of the evening - Mahler's awesome Second Symphony 'Resurrection'. Combining huge orchestral forces with a large choir and vocal soloists, the work takes the listener from early solemnity to an absolute high on a scale not seen before. The apocolyptic conclusion of the symphony - depicting both the terror and glory of a last judgement and resurrection - is surely one of the most moving, exhilarating and uplifting passages of music ever written.
Tickets, priced £10, £12 & £14 (concessions £7, £9 & £11), are available from 0117 922 3686 or by clicking below.
