8pm, Armstrong Hall, Thornbury
For our April Show we had the family group the Brynes, first time to the Club who had travelled all the way down from Chesterfield. The band consists of Father ‘Shaun’ and sons Jake and Lyle.
It has been a long time since we have seen a band at the club, and what a difference to the sound that evening. Most of vocals were done by Shaun who was also on bass, who had a similar voice of that of Roy Orbison. But was occasionally joined by sons, in perfect harmony together to accompany their father.
This especially showed in the tune ‘Running Kind’. But the sound of hearing the drums played by Jake stood out the most. It was no wonder he passed his grade 8 with a distinction from ‘rock school’. A pleasure to be at an evening where the sounds, had all accompanied each other and was not too loud.
They were not afraid to cover any tunes in Country Music, covering the artists of the likes of Cash to Jennings, Williams to Crowell. To keep listeners and dancers entertained all night.
One song that stood out was ‘Copper head’ by Steve Earle, which started very slow and speed up half way through which nearly confused the dancers.
The First time we seen the band was at Jim Silverthorn's Trade Fair last year, over the August Bank Holiday at the Fry’s Club in Keynsham near Bristol. So which other artist are we going to spot this year! Yes it is still going despite the closure of the factory.
So if you are an artist or band looking for bookings around this area, then this is the place to be. Please contact Jim Silverthorn on Tel no 01179 671067/mobile 07976 238322 or email val@mesh.co.uk, or search out the details on Facebook which is regularly updated.
