Armstrong Hall, Thornbury
Thornbury Choral Society have been invited to give the opening Saturday's concert at the Thornbury Arts Festival, conducted by their Musical Director Steven Kings.
The concert will present a very attractive Eastern European programme, including Janacek's powerful Our Father with a substantial part for a harpist, Kodaly's Missa Brevis which will be sung in the original 1944 version and is haunted by the emotions of war-torn Hungary with sounds of air-raid sirens, the prayers of the faithful for deliverance but also a solid, understated majesty and Dvorak's Mass in D which will be sung in the original 1887 version and is gentle, easy-going, tuneful, sunny and very expressive.
Nearby free parking is available at St Mary Street (limited to 2 hours stay before 6pm), and at Rock Street.
