6pm: The Chantry, Castle Street, Thornbury
Mumpers meet at the Christmas tree in the St Mary Centre at 6pm then proceed to the High Street and The Chantry with stops on the way to sing carols with the Thornbury Town Band.
Join the Mumpers’ Parade or be at The Chantry at 6.30pm to give them a warm welcome. A Wassail cup and a mince pie will be served on arrival.
The entertainment begins at 7pm. There is music and magic, sketches and singing, mesmerising historical snippets, mirth galore and lots more!
The bar will be open from 6.30pm. Roast chestnuts and hot dogs will be on sale throughout the evening.
Mumping Night is the traditional Christmas entertainment, which ACT (Arts and Community in Thornbury) is once again bringing to the Chantry, following a hugely successful, sell-out event last year.
Following a procession through the town, interspersed with carols, after a warm, wassail cup and mince pie (both included in the ticket price), entertainers now confirmed include acclaimed magician Barry Smith, Valerie Quinn with a History of Thornbury Castle, Octopus Drama Group, with songs & sketches, plus the award winning Northavon Youth Theatre Company's Concert Party and classical singing group: Nota Bene.
Although at the time of writing the programme is still being confirmed, we hope to bring you a high profile band, while we are also in hot pursuit of a group of Morris Men, so we can guarantee there will be plenty of variety! More offers to contribute are coming in, so if you or your group is interested, please contact Kate on 01454 411253 or email below.
ACT hopes to offer 16 different acts for your delight, plus food, (including hot chestnuts and hotdogs) and drink aplenty, as the Chantry Bar will be open! Just to add to the mix, there will probably be more than one Lord of Misrule this year, so look out for fun and high jinks throughout the evening. Tickets remain at £8 and £4 for children (available from Thornbury Garden Shop), but please note that the Chantry is unsuitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
Tickets are limited to 200, so don't miss out and start Christmas with ACT, the Charity aiming to build a theatre based community complex in the centre of Thornbury.
