7.30pm, Cossham Hall, Thornbury.
Trevor T. Smith has worked as an actor for the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the Theatre Workshop at Stratford East (over a dozen productions), at the Old Vic and in many of London's West End theatres as well as in films.
He has also appeared in many television series including Rumpole of the Bailey, The Bill, Allo, Allo, The House of Elliot, London's Burning, Softly, Softly, etc.
Trevor's play is called "An Evening with Dementia" and deals with issues of loss, disempowerment and old age, and deconstructs the experience of an identity cut loose from the rest of the world by the loss of memory.
It is a delightful, often humorous performance which gives a poignant account of the world seen through the eyes of a dementia sufferer.
Recent performances in Stroud have been sold out and audience members have declared, "Anyone who cares for a dementia sufferer should certainly see this play!"
After the play, there will be a question and answer discussion chaired by Thornbury's Professor Jane Gilliard.
Jane has worked with and for people with dementia for more than 25 years. She worked as a hospital social worker and then with children and families, before specialising in work with older people and especially people with dementia and their carers. Jane established an innovative service supporting the carers of people attending the Bristol Memory Disorders Clinic. In the mid-1990's she established Dementia Voice, the dementia services development centre for the south-west, and was its Chief Executive for nearly eight years. Jane has chaired the National Network of Dementia Services Development Centres and has been involved in many research advisory groups.
