Edward Jenner is known as the man who changed the world – inventor of the smallpox vaccination and founder of immunology. He was also a country doctor, naturalist, geologist, ballooning pioneer and medical scientist. Find out about his life and work at the museum established in his beautiful Queen Anne home. Old Down Country Park
Set in 60 acres of South Gloucestershire countryside Old Down Country Park is a fun day out for all the family. There is plenty to see and do at the park including taking a stroll around the farm and meeting the resident animals.
In addition the park boasts a Victorian Walled Garden, woodland walk, adventure playground, rockery and fishing lake.
Refreshments are available from the café year round with seasonal snacks and cakes prepared fresh every day. Next door to the café sits the farm shop stocked with a selection of locally sourced produce, toys and gifts.
Old Down Manor sits in the grounds of the country park and from summer 2010 will be available for private hire and weddings.

Thornbury & District Museum
The museum was started in 1986 to house a collection of artefacts bequeathed to The Thornbury Society, and rapidly expanded. It is managed by the Thornbury & District Heritage Trust, a registered charity as well as a Trust company, and is supported by South Gloucestershire Council and Thornbury Town Council. It is an independent museum and financed by grants and donations.

The museum is next to the Armstrong Hall, and opening times are Tuesday to Friday 1-4pm, and Saturday 10-4pm. We have a small shop with books, leaflets, pamphlets, postcards, all of local interest.
